Roland served six and a half years in RAF Central Band, in the Middle East (Western Desert and Palestine) he was the leader of the RAF No 1 Band of the MEF. He was known in the RAF as Roland Shaw Tomkins (Sergeant). Roland has since changed his name to Roland Shaw.
